Artist Statements

Gridded piece:

This piece is a gridded profile picture. Where we gridded our papers and gridded an image. Then went from square to square putting what the image has in that square with the corresponding square. It’s easy depending on what you do. Gridded pictures do take time though.

I created this piece by picking an image I liked. Then I went to a site that helped me grid my image correctly, so I had the right size. I made sure I gridded my sketch book page correctly after my image was gridded. After that I started to go square to square as I sketched everything out. Once I was done, I went back over it adding small details and shading.

The big idea for this piece was to show people how grid piece’s take time but still look good if done correctly or to the best of the artist ability. I hope to show people even though it was a gridded piece it may or may not look as good as the original picture. I also hope to show people that doing a gridded piece can be fun if it doesn’t sound like it even with a bunch of squares. It’s fun and enjoyable.

My goal for this piece was to show people that even with a grid, things can still look awesome. Some people overlook the small details in some pictures. Which is fine but not really because some of those small details may look or make others happy. So, doing a grid piece can show all the small details you miss in a picture when you sketch out everything in each square. I’m hoping this goal was achieved in this piece.

Working on this piece has taught me that seeing things gridded is pretty neat. Seeing that having all the details being put into one square makes a big difference. And seeing that even a gridded picture can look nicer than the original. I’m hoping people can see that with this piece.

Cross Contour Piece:

This piece is a cross contour picture. Where we chose an object, we liked. Then we chose how we were going to do our piece and what type of contour lines we were going to use. It’s fun and easy depending on what object you chose to your liking and what type of contour lines you chose to do. Doing cross contour can take time and doing the lines you chose won’t always come out perfect.

I created this piece by picking an objected that caught my eye first. Then I went and done a few sketches to see what I wanted my object to do. I made sure I sketched lightly so I could go over it with pen after I was done. After doing all the lines and what contour lines I chose to do with my Coca-Cola bottle I seen that the lines weren’t perfect which was fine.  Once I was done with the lines and going over them, I went back over it and added the stippling for the shadow.

The big idea for this piece was to show people how cross contour pieces take time but still look good even if some small lines are a mess. I wanted to show people that it doesn’t matter if the object has lines, stippling or any other contour lines the object will still look awesome. I find it cool how an object can look so neat with contour lines and some stippling. I do ask people how things look with contour lines and how they think it would look also what type of way the contour lines would go.

My goal for this piece was to show people that even with contour lines and stippling, things can still look awesome. Some people overlook things with contour lines. It’s cool how things look with lines and the way it fits the shape of the object or whatever it is. So, when doing a contour line project, I hope people see the time and effort people put in all the details of the piece. I’m hoping this goal was achieved in this piece.

Working on this piece has taught me that even if the piece is done in contour line it’s nice. Seeing that having all the lines show the way of the object and how the lines would flow is awesome. And seeing that even a contour picture can look nicer than the original object. I’m hoping people can see that with this piece.

Magnified Piece:

This piece is a magnified piece. Where the art work is based on let's say an object, animal, person, etc. but zoomed in or magnified. You pick a spot on whatever you choose and you focus on that one spot it's pretty fun and easy depending on what your doing. You may ask what you can do with a zoomed in picture. Well it's easy you pick a spot and do the details for jus that spot.

I created this piece by picking an object that I liked. First I picked the spot on the object and started to do four rough sketches to see what I liked. I picked one picture where it was close to the characters face and showed parts of his body. After that I started to sketch it on my paper and making sure it looked nice of course. After I did that I added the shading and other small details.

The big idea for this piece is to show people what some objects look like up close. I wanted to show people that it doesn't matter if the object if the object is far away or up close it still looks amazing. It's nice how a object can look different from close up bust still make since and look nice to the person's eyes. I do ask people would they like to see things differently like up close or far away. Seeing things differently  gives people more appreciation to things I feel like.

My goal on this art piece was to show people things up close are pretty awesome. Some people like to look at things far away but never seem to appreciate the fine details up close. Which is ok but my goal was to hopefully make people appreciate seeing things up close. Even if it means missing a few parts of the object, animal, or person. I'm hoping this piece reaches that goal.

Working on this piece has taught me that seeing things magnified or up close is awesome then seeing it far away. Seeing things magnified gives you a chance of showing off so much detail. Maybe even some details people miss seeing from far away. Working on this piece made me happy and made me appreciate the small details. And I hope this piece helps people see more detail.

Master Style Piece:

This piece is a master style piece. Where the art work is based on let's say Pop Art, Graffiti, Surrealism etc. You pick a style you wanna do and then draw something n that style. You may ask what you can draw with some of the things I listed above. Well it's simple for the one

I chose was Graffiti so I had to draw something that represented something for that I drew a dog with a bunch pf names around it trying to indicate picking the right name for you're beloved pet.

I created this piece by picking a dog and some names that I liked. First I picked where the dog was going to go so all the names I picked would fit perfectly around the dog. Then I started to rough sketch where the names were gonna go around the dog so they would fit well. After that I started to nicely outline things and as I went I started to fill everything in with nice colors. After I did that I added some last little details on the dog and made a nice little blob of color around each name.

The big idea for this piece is to show people that picking a name for you're beloved pet is kind of tricky. I wanted to show people that it doesn't matter if the name doesn't fit the animal well all that matters is that you are happy with the name. It's kind of awesome to be able to have so many options to have open to name the pet you love and adore. I do ask people would they like to see dog names even if it doesn't seem to fit the dog perfectly in other peoples eyes. Seeing things differently when naming you're beloved pet will change the way you look at their names.

My goal on this art piece was to show people that picking names for their beloved pet can be tricky with all the name options available to them. Some people like to just give their dog a name and not put to much thought in it. Which is ok but my goal was to hopefully make people realize that choosing a name for their loved pet is something to think about more then just throwing one out there. Even if it means thinking and coming up with a name no one else has thought of. I'm hoping this piece reaches that goal.

Working on this piece has taught me that seeing so many names for one pet that picking one name is hard. Seeing that one or two names can fit an animal it may be hard to just chose one. But picking the right name for the pet is tricky but also fun. Working on this piece made me happy and made me appreciate all the wonderful names you can choose from. And I hope this piece helps people see more detail.

Texture Piece:

This piece is a texture piece. Where the art work is based on a drawing that feels like you can touch it. You pick a picture like an animal for instance. You may ask what you can do with an animal and how you can make it look like it has texture. Well it's simple for the animal I chose was a bear so I had to do the fur, it's nose and of course the bear had a fish in it's mouth so I had to do some scales on the fish.

I created this piece by picking a bear and the position it would be in and how the fish would be in it's mouth. After that I then started to roughly sketch out the bear and the fish making sure it all looked nice together. Then I started to put in some of the texture to see how it all would look and to make sure it looked like you could touch it. After that I then started to erase the outline and make the texture look like nice and neat around the bear and it's face. When I finished that I started to work on the fishes texture like it's scales and its fins.

The big idea for this piece is to show people that giving a piece texture can make a difference. I wanted to show people that adding texture to a piece can make it look nice and make the mind think you can reach out and touch the piece. I find it fun to be able to have the option to add texture to your piece and trick the mind into thinking you can reach out and touch the piece. I would like to ask people if adding texture to a piece of art work would change the piece and make it better. Seeing things differently when you add texture to a piece is neat and cool how you can trick the mind into thinking you can touch it and feel fur or scales depending on the piece you do.

My goal on this art piece was to show people that putting texture in their piece can make a difference even if it is a small difference. Some people like to add texture to their piece since it gives the piece a beautiful look. Which is awesome my goal was to hopefully make people realize that even adding a little bit of texture to their piece would make a difference. Even if it means just adding some texture to maybe a wall in their piece or fur to an animal maybe even adding texture to the sky. I'm hoping this piece reaches that goal.

Working on this piece has taught me that seeing so many different textures that can go into a piece is awesome. Seeing that one or two different textures can go into one piece and flow perfectly together is pretty neat. But picking the right texture and doing it right can be tricky yet fun. Working on this piece made me happy and playing around with textures was fun and relaxing. And I hope this piece helps people see more detail in the work people do in the textures.

Transformation Piece:

This piece is turning a character into a character into a human. In this piece you can see some of the elements like texture and lines. The texture is on Toothless mostly with his little patches of scales there's not much texture on Stitch. And I used the lines to make the rest of the drawing of course like the onesies, the eyes, ears, etc. The subject matter here was to either take a person and turn them into a cartoon or you could take a character and turn them into human.

The media I used for this piece was pencil after I done it in pencil I erased what I did then went over it with micron pens. I used the 03 and 05 for my piece I mainly used the 05 for the onesies and Toothless tail. I used the 03 for Stitch's frog along with Toothless fish then used it on both faces. I created this piece by choosing the characters and then doing four rough sketches and chose which pose I wanted to do. I lightly sketched my piece and made sure it was what I wanted after that I went over it with my microns.

The characters that inspired my art work was Toothless and Stitch. The big idea for this piece of work was to show people what Stitch and Toothless would look like as humans which is pretty awesome if you ask me. My piece doesn't express a social issue this was just mainly to show people how Stitch and Toothless would look as humans. The expressions in this piece or emotions are suppose to be seen as happy I mean what little kids wouldn't be happy in character onesies. They are both smiling as Stitch is kind of shy with his little red cheeks.

One of my goals was to be able to draw people. I have reached that goal now by pushing myself to draw Toothless and Stitch as humans which wasn't easy but I pushed myself and it turned out amazing. Making Stitch and Toothless into humans wasn't easy making the onesies look nice and making sure I had the faces correct. Along with making sure they looked like the original character but in human form. I say I reached my goal and I am proud of myself for doing so.

The final piece of my art work is just what I imaged but way cooler. I say this because Stitch and Toothless look like what I imaged they would look like in their little character onesies even the little details on each of them. This piece has taught me many things like how Stitch looked better with his ears down on the onesies instead of up. And how Toothless little patches of scales look better on him then he did without them it gave him more of his look like his character. This piece has made me very happy and showed me that some character may look awesome in human form it may take some imagination but that's what makes it more fun.
